Snap In Carpet from The Matworks LTD. has an 8 year warranty on the carpet. However, for this to happen, the owner must provide the carpet with a little tender loving care.
Your carpet should be vacuumed thoroughly quite often. How often depends on the amount of traffic walking along the boat carpet. Vacuuming often will help keep dirt from sticking down into the carpet. While this helps tremendously, dirt will always find its way stuck down into the carpet that the vacuum will not reach.
This is why a cleaning that requires a little elbow grease is required about 2-3 times a year. A bucket of mild soapy water or a water and vinegar mixture, a soft brush, a garden sprayer, a water hose, and a heavy duty vacuum cleaner can go a long way when it comes to cleaning your boat carpet. Use the hose to wet the carpet then scrub the carpet with the soft brush. Work section by section from the front of the boat to the back. Some have found that scrubbing with a mixture of vinegar and water helps because the vinegar will actually break down the dirt (2-3 pints white vinegar in 2 gallon bucket, fill the rest with water). Put the mild soap mixture or the vinegar and water mixture in a garden sprayer and spray the section of carpet. Let the solution sit for several minutes. Scrub the section again with the soft brush. Rinse area thoroughly and then suck it all up with the heavy duty vacuum cleaner.
Use a pressure washer between scrubs. A pressure washer is perfectly fine to use on your carpet to help keep it clean in between the couple times a year that you fully scrub the carpet.
The DO NOTs:
Do NOT machine wash your carpet. This will destroy the carpet and backing.
Do NOT use a carpet cleaning machine, such as a carpet shampooer. This could pull the loops out of your carpet and/or damage any embroidery you may have.
Following these steps will guarantee that your carpet stays in great condition for at least 8 years.
