Matworks Snap in Carpet Installation FAQs
Thinking about redoing the carpeting in your boat with one of our custom cockpit carpet sets? Check out a few of our most frequently asked questions to learn more about our snap installation process.
Are snaps pre-installed?
To ensure the most precise fit, snaps do not come pre-installed. Because boat manufacturers send us OEM cut files without any snap location markings, we don’t pre-install snaps to ensure the correct placement on your boat. For installation to turn out perfectly, the process needs to be done in the boat.
Will I receive snaps with my order?
Yes! We include all of the snaps you’ll need to install your new carpet. While our team knows how many snaps are needed for each carpet installation, you can always request more if needed.
Where can I purchase a snap tool?
For a quick and easy installation process, we recommend using either the Hapden heavy duty snap fastener tool or the PowerSnap Snap & Grommet tool. Simply set your fasteners, position the carpet, press the tool, and your carpet will snap securely in place.
What if I do not want to put the snaps in?
If you are local, we can provide installation for an additional fee. If you aren’t local, you can reach out to your local canvas shop or marina to schedule an installation.
How to install your new snap-in boat carpet?
Installation is designed to be quick and simple. Lay one piece of carpet down, ensuring it’s centered and covering all studs. Then, starting on the top left edge, pull back the edge of the carpet and color the edge of the studs with the marker.
Push the carpet back down on top of the stud and lift it back up. There will be a mark left on the backing, which is where the snap will be installed. Work your way from left to right down the boat to help keep the mats centered as you install the snaps.
There is a 1/2 inch tolerance for boat carpet orders.
What if I do not have the studs in my boat and want to install snap in boat carpet?
If your boat doesn’t have any snap studs installed in the floor, you can simply screw them into the floor of your boat. When you place your order, you can request bottom snaps for easy installation. The placement of these bottom snap pieces work best when they are about a foot apart around the boat floor. Aim to add just enough space so that the boat carpet will snap in when held down.
