All of our marine custom cockpit carpet sets include snaps for easy installation. Because snap placement can vary from one boat to the next, snaps are sent loose and not pre-installed, allowing for a custom fit on your boat.
The “snap-in” feature allows you to simply place your new carpet over the designated area and secure it in place. You’ll be able to install them to match the existing snaps, eliminating the need for adhesives.
While the carpet is designed to snap in place, a snap tool is required for installation. Many canvas/ upholstery shops, boat repair shops, or marinas will install them for you. Otherwise, you can get a snap tool and easily install them yourself.
3 Step Process for Installing Your New Cockpit Carpet Set
To get started, you’ll need a snap tool and a sharpie marker. Then, follow these quick and easy steps to get started:
-
Lay one piece of carpet down at a time and make sure it’s centered and covering all studs.
-
Start on the top left edge and pull back the edge of the carpet. Then, color the edge of the studs with the marker, push the carpet back down on top of the stud, and lift it back up. The marker will leave a mark on the backing.
-
Install the snap where the mark is, snap it in place, and work your way from left to right down the boat. This will keep the mats centered as you install the snaps.
We recommend using the Hapden heavy duty snap fastener tool for installation. Just set your fasteners, position the carpet, press the tool, and your carpet will snap securely in place. For a heavier-duty option, the PowerSnap Snap & Grommet tool will get the job done. Made out of high-strength aluminum, this tool will allow you to quickly and easily set your snaps.
